Who is coaching Stallone?
For the filming of The Expendables, Stallone was coached by his personal trainer, Gunnar Peterson, who worked with both NHL and NBA professionals and many movie stars. It was Gunnar who was preparing Sylvester for the film Rocky Balboa.
According to Gunnar, Stallone takes training very seriously and it is very easy to work with him: “He is one of my few clients who not only does not need to be taught, but who teaches you. He is very punctual and very thorough in training ” (1) .
Stallone’s workout secret
For The Expendables, Stallone worked seriously on increasing mass – it is easy to see that his form was different in the films Spy Kids and Rocky Balboa. This time he focused on training on the forearms, traps and neck muscles.
Coach Stallone, Gunnar Peterson: “The bulk of the training was in the lower body muscles: we do deadlifts and shrugs with the same weight, so the forearms were also worked out. In general, basic exercises are the most effective . ”
Safety and choice of technology
“When performing exercises, especially rotational or balancing exercises, we carefully monitor the technique, because many movements can be traumatic. In the film, Stallone’s character has a leather bracelet on his finger that actually hides the injury. ”
“As for training, we do not have a single program or monotonous technique: we do both supersets and dropsets, classic exercises, as well as exercises with kettlebells or variations in the spirit of squats on one leg. The training should be varied. ”
How does Stallone train?
Below you will find the program that Stallone did in the early days of The Expendables. This program focuses on muscle growth by increasing metabolism through increased leg muscle work. She also works out her hands.
Stallone’s coach, Gunnar Peterson: “A lot of people are afraid to swing and get too big. I think this is funny. Even if you train like a pro, you will not be able to eat and recover the same, because everyone is individual. ”
